The Tripod Insider
If you've been anywhere near a newspaper, TV, or radio, then you
couldn't help but hear about the freezing cold weather we've been
experiencing up here in frosty Billsville. It's been 10 degrees below
zero for the past week. This past Monday, Tripod's heating system
decided to take a vacation day. It must have known it was a national
holiday! Too bad we were all here working anyway!
Here are some of the joys of sub-zero weather: the gasoline in your
car turns to jelly; ears fall off if they aren't covered by a good hat;
your nostrils stick together if you dare to breathe outside of your nice
fleece scarf (Lycos supplied us with those for the holidays!); pipes
break and toilets refuse to flush; the hot shower you take in the
morning is the only heat you feel all day; and even long johns aren't
warm enough sometimes. Okay, I'll stop complaining. I do have to say
that it finally feels like winter around here. And we thought we'd be
spared! Guess again.
At least I got to go cross-country skiing this weekend. Despite the
mild case of frostbite on my right foot, I had a pretty good time!
Fortunately, it looks like it will warm up around here this weekend.
It's a good thing, too, because my poor cat is going stir crazy!
(He refuses to go outside in this weather.) He should be toughened
up by winter's end — just in time for mud season!
