We've got a lot of change going on here in Williamstown! We have a
brand-new member of the editorial department — my new desk mate,
Susan Slattery. Well, at least she's new to our group: She moved over
from the Williamstown branch of the Lycos e-commerce team. She's
cranking out some serious copy, and we couldn't be happier to have
her on board!
I don't know why, but Stephen Clark keeps entering my office-gossip
radar: He and his new wife, Lisa, are heading this week to Paris for their
long-awaited honeymoon. We jealously yet sincerely bid them "bon
voyage!" We all also owe Lisa a big "merci!" for making our Valentine's
Day a little sweeter. She made scrumptious pink-frosted cupcakes for
everyone on Monday!
And now for the nitty-gritty, super-serious, page-building bulletin: The
latest issue of Handcrafted came out this week. In "Intro to CGI — Passing
Data," you'll learn about Tripod's offer of CGI capability to all members;
it comes in the form of a cgi-bin that lives in their member directories. CGI
(common gateway interface) allows you to run a program or script on your
Web server. CGI scripts can be written in a number of handy languages;
on Tripod, we use Perl. Learn how to utilize CGI scripting for lots of cool
features, such as real-time chat, shopping carts, and user-data file
management.
