– Welcome Peter and Ames!

THE INSIDER
News and gossip from the Diva

Okay, you asked for gossip. First of all, Tripodians who have already moved east cannot get enough of Williamstown! They're flocking back here every weekend! For good reason. Maggie and Jenny went to the theatre this past weekend and had the pleasure of sitting next to ... drumroll ... Mr. George Clooney, the number one most eligible bachelor, according to the esteemed People magazine. He made some waves this weekend when he went for a drink at the Side Bar, and was looking particularly cute according to my inside reports. He certainly didn't look like a fisherman!

Now, our newest stars here at Tripod! Peter Kefalas joins us as the new Tripod Site Manager, and let me tell you folks, he's doing a fabulous job. I also wanted to welcome Ames Friedman, who started as Tripod's Senior Product Manager. She was out in Williamstown today meeting and greeting folks, and getting a taste of where it all started. We're very excited to have them both onboard as we embark on our journey eastward. Welcome!

MEMBERSHIP QUESTION OF THE WEEK
Get the inside dirt on some of the questions most frequently fielded by our dedicated membership department!

Q: How should I name my files?
A: The filenames you use are more important than they might seem. It's good practice to use short, easy-to-remember filenames that describe the content of the file. A file called "page4.html" is not terribly descriptive, and a file named "bobs_page_about_chicken_feet.html" is just too long. Name your files concisely. (Bob could use "chickfeet.html" as his filename.) You'll want to keep filenames short Ñ- the longer they are, the more difficult it becomes to link to them correctly.

You'll also want to avoid mixing case in your filenames, for the same reason. A file called "ChICKfeeT.html" will frustrate people trying to link to it or even type it into their browser. Keep your file names lowercase to avoid potential problems. If you upload files using Tripod's FileManager, you'll notice the "make lowercase" option. Check this option when uploading, and your case-sensitivity problems will be a thing of the past.

I know this sounds nitpicky, but filenames cannot contain double periods (..), spaces, or any of the following characters: ! @ # $ % ^ & * ( ). Lastly, filenames cannot begin with a period (.) or slash (/).
