The move is finally complete! We've made it from Williamstown in
some form or another, and now we're in our proper new home!
Tripodians made the trek upstairs to the seventh floor (like seventh
heaven, I tell you!) of the building this week, and it is wonderful.
Not only do we have brand-new desks and work stations (ergonomically
designed, of course), but we have a roof deck! It was something we
always wanted in Williamstown (or was that a roof pool?), and it's
here in Waltham that our dream has come true!
That's not the only exciting thing that's been going on around here
- we also just launched the Lycos VideoCenter! Now you can create,
share, and post your videos on the Internet, whether you're a webcam
newbie or a digital video expert. Import your own video clips and use
the Lycos VideoProducer to add your own personal touch to them. When
you upload your videos to your personalized MyVideoCenter, you'll get
10 MB of FREEspace, and you'll be able to manage them from Web connection.
The best part is that you can share your videos with friends and family
- you can even send them over e-mail! Techno-savvy Grandma will love

Q: How should I manage my files?
A: The best advice we can give on file management is to make backups
of everything in your Tripod directory. It is incredibly easy to delete
a file or make an unfortunate edit. You can accidentally ruin days of
good work in just a few seconds. Bad server connections can do the
same. Learn how to use an FTP client and regularly back up your work
on your home computer.
On Tripod, a good strategy for managing your files is to use
subdirectories. Keep your page files (.html and .htm) in the root
directory and name them in a way that allows you to remember what
each page contains. Create a directory or two for images, a directory
for sound files, a directory for downloadable files (if you have them),
and a directory for such miscellaneous files as text files or documents.
Keep all Perl modules and scripts in your cgi-bin, along with the HTML
and text files used by these scripts.
