THE INSIDER
News and gossip from the Guru

Before we get into the maze of today's message, I'd like to say a word about the near-epic length of last week's introduction. In retrospect, it might have run a little long. But I have a perfectly good explanation. As embarrassing as it is to admit, I was under the impression that I was getting paid by the word! It seemed like such a textbook win-win situation: You guys get tons o' content; I get new brakes for my trusty/rusty Civic. Oh well. From now on, less is more . . . more or less.

Meanwhile here at Tripod's high-rise retreat, the mood has taken a turn for the spooky. And no, it has nothing to do with the presidential election. (Still, I'd appreciate advice on how to get rid of nightmares featuring zombies in blue suits arguing about taxes.) The uptick in the creepy quotient was due to Halloween -- a fave holiday on the 7th floor. Granted, "normal" is never the operative word around here, but the sudden influx of bats, spiders, and ghosts, managed to transport us to a new level of unreality. Before you could say boo, Todd (Tripod friend & production engineer extraordinaire) fired up the ol' site builder to capture the spirit with otherwordly photos and captions. A shameless plug, but true!

Clearly, the other big event here in happenin' Waltham was the merger of Lycos with Spanish Internet leader, Terra. The upside, other than the free tapas bar (just kidding, but these ideas have to start somewhere!) is that the site-building powers of Tripod will now have an even greater global reach. The merger also provided an opportunity for self-reflection for yours truly. You see, I was always the guy in high school Spanish class who complained loudly and often that he'd "never use this stuff in real life." Now I work for a Spanish company and my command of the language is limited to "the pencil of my Aunt is on the table." Help.

MEMBERSHIP QUESTION OF THE WEEK
Get the inside dirt on some of the questions most frequently fielded by our dedicated membership department!

Q: How can I get a feedback form on my page?
A: Tripod members can use a CGI form handler to receive e-mail from visitors. Using the form handler in the Script Library, you can set the address to which the form results are sent, insuring that the results will reach you regardless of the browser a viewer is using. To use the Script Library, log in with your member name and password, and go to the Site Add-Ons page. Under CGI, click on "Form Handler," and follow the given instructions.

You can ensure that the form info will go to your address by using the following line of code:

<INPUT TYPE="hidden" NAME="email_to" VALUE="me@my.address">

Replace "me@my.address" with your e-mail address.
