THE INSIDER
News and gossip from the Guru

Having trouble recognizing us? It’s not your eyes. It’s the New Year’s resolutions kicking in. Yes, you’re looking at the new and improved Team Tripod. A healthy diet (pass the raw rutabaga!) and daily exercise regimen (no elevators for us, we RUN up the seven flights of stairs) have worked wonders. Watch us in action! We’re multi-tasking. We’re seizing the day. We’re stopping strangers just to shake their hands. We’re lying horribly, of course. Now who's got the chocolate donuts?

Year-end resolutions don’t always have to crash and burn. You just have to focus on something you care about. Like site building. Our new Site Builder is all about improvement. We’ve come up with dozens of new templates, made it easier to wrestle your photos into shape, and added a bunch of enhancements that help to take the heavy lifting out of creating a cool Web presence. And as always, you don’t need to learn a bit of HTML . . . which takes care of another resolution. Life is good.

BUILDING TIPS AND TRICKS

It’s true that you don’t need to speak fluent HTML to build a great Web site. But it’s still nice to have a phrase book handy just in case you want to chat with your hard-working pal. Webmonkey has the perfect cheat sheet to help you ace the "HTML as a second language" class.

MEMBERSHIP QUESTION OF THE WEEK
Get the inside dirt on some of the questions most frequently fielded by our dedicated membership department!

Q: How do I cut and paste code into my pages?

A: There are several ways to insert code into your pages. FreeForm, one of several tools in the Homepage Studio, allows you to write straight HTML code without the use of specific templates. If you've made a page using FreeForm, you can simply cut and paste code directly into the text box provided. If you've created a page with the QuickPage tool, you'll have to convert your page to a FreeForm document before you can add any HTML. Converting a QuickPage file to a FreeForm file can be done in the FileManager, using the "Edit with" option in the "Edit" pull-down menu.

Remember, however, that this conversion is one-way. Once you open a QuickPage file in the FreeForm editor, you'll have to edit the page using FreeForm from then on. There's no way to convert a FreeForm page back to a QuickPage document.

There are a few QuickPage builders that allow you to add your own HTML code to the page. In some of the older QuickPage builders, you'll notice an option to "Edit the HTML" of a given section. Clicking this will take you to a text box where you can either paste in code or type in your own. Similarly, in the newer QuickPage QuickDesign grid formats, you can insert your own HTML code into any section, simply by selecting this option from the pull-down menu.
