THE INSIDER
News and gossip from the Guru
Most office buildings have sealed windows. You can press your face
against the glass and imagine real air, but that's about it. Here on
the 7th floor of Tripod Central we have windows that open! You don't
need an expensive government study to gauge the healing power of an
occasional breeze. We're living proof. As long as a passing gull
doesn't alter its flight plan and land in our laps, it's all good.
And perfect for paper airplanes. But you didn't hear that from me.
It gets better. Memorial Day weekend (the unofficial start of summer
here on the all-too-arctic east coast) is here and that means mostly
everyone can escape the 9-to-5 confines for outdoor fun. If you're
playing host to a weekend bash, let your fellow Tripodians help you
make it one for the record books. For the carnivores in the crowd,
you only need three letters: BBQ. But if you're expecting friends
who don't like to look their food in the face, sizzle up some
spicy bean burgers. Sound good? Great! I'll be over in about an hour.
BUILDING TIPS AND TRICKS
Find the latest and greatest homepage-building tips and tools here!
What separates great looking sites from ugh-inducing also-rans? Often,
it's something as simple as color choice. Instead of making decisions
as you go along ("I haven't used neon green yet!"), pick colors in
advance and stick to the browser-safe palette. Webmonkey has the codes
to keep your hues harmonious.
MEMBERSHIP QUESTION OF THE WEEK
Get the inside dirt on some of the questions most frequently fielded
by our dedicated membership department!
Q: How do I use CGI on Tripod?
A: There are three ways to get scripts into your Tripod cgi-bin. First,
you can use the Script Editor in the Homepage Studio to write your own
scripts from scratch. You can also upload scripts just as you would any
other file using the FileManager. Finally, you can upload scripts using
a stand-alone FTP program. Once you have a script, getting it to work
will take some time and skill. For some helpful advice, check out our
collection of tutorials.
