THE INSIDER
News and gossip from the Guru

Family. Communication. Those two themes turn up a lot in issues of The Insider. We spin tales about our own "family unit," Team Tripod. We offer tips on site building and getting the word out. Even in the wake of September 11th, when so much seems changed, these topics still ring true. Thankfully, we can report that everyone here at Tripod is safe and sound, our thoughts now with all those in need. As for the Web, much of the $200 million raised thus far for the victims of the attacks has been collected online. There's too many sites to list here -- another gratifying sign -- but if you'd like to lend a hand, a good place to start is the American Liberty Partnership. You'll find links to over 30 groups collecting donations and assisting with relief efforts.

Thank you!

It's true that you don't need to speak fluent HTML to build a great Web site. But it's still nice to have a phrase book handy just in case you want to chat with your hardworking pal. Webmonkey has the perfect cheat sheet to help you ace the "HTML as a second language" class.

N E T W O R K    N E W S
Take full advantage of what the Internet has to offer!

When terrorism struck on September 11th, daily routine was replaced in an instant by unimaginable tragedy. As the reality of those horrific events hit home, the world moved from disbelief to grief and the slow process of recovery. To help, Lycos has established a page to relate charitable opportunities and avenues for expressing support.

MEMBERSHIP QUESTION OF THE WEEK
Get the inside dirt on some of the questions most frequently fielded by our dedicated membership department!

Q: What is my URL?

A: When you create and save pages in your Tripod directory, they are automatically published to the Web. Each page has an actual address (URL) of:

http://members.tripod.com/your_member_name/page_name.html
Notice that your Tripod member name is part of the URL, and that the file name of the page you want to see always comes last. Pages need to end with either ".html" or ".htm" in order to be read by browsers.

You can also access your pages with a shorter URL. This URL, called a subdomain, looks like this:

http://your_member_name.tripod.com/page_name.html
This address is easier to type and looks much more professional. Feel free to use whichever URL you like. Either one will work just fine.
